In 1999, Jan Augenstein - artist, Air Force military wife, and feng shui practitioner - originated the FridgeFronts concept while painting her base-housing kitchen at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. She wanted to disguise her big, white, obtrusive fridge and make it blend with the walls. From the initial concept (the first prototype was made of Luan plywood and Velcro!) to the sleek magnetic "skins" of the final product, the FridgeFronts journey has taken ten years.

Entrepreneurial spirit took hold as Jan teamed up with brother and business partner Jason Augenstein, and pursued the patent for her product. The process (which took almost three years) was completed when the patent was officially granted in January 2005.
